Today, you will learn a simple florist technique that allows for easy placement of flowers without the need for florist foam, it’s the Tape Method!
That’s right, Tape! Any kind of clear tape will do. So, pull open that junk drawer and grab your scotch tape or florist tape. If you seem to be out, no problem. Click the link below and have some delivered in a jiffy.
Wrap the Edge and Create a Grid
Make sure to FIRST wrap the edge in tape so the cross pieces of tape can firmly adhere to the edge, (it’s hard to see in the picture). Then, create a grid as shown. Your grid should have approximately 1-inch squares. Anything smaller and you may not have enough space to hold your flowers.

Select your vase and prep your water.
If you don’t already have the vase featured in today’s post, then go ahead and add that to your Amazon cart too! It’s a great standard, wide-mouth vase. Getting started
Once you’ve placed your tape grid and trimmed your stems to the perfect length, start adding in the flower that is the most voluptuous. That’s right, the one that will give you the most rounded out shape all on its own. Alstroemeria are the perfect flower for just that.
Alstroemeria have long slender leaves, (leave the upper most leaf stem) and their blooms open far and wide. They typically have 2-3 blooms per stem, which also contributes to how broad they appear.
They also have a longer shelf life, lasting up to two weeks! Yep, two whole weeks or more! So when the other flowers start to fade, hold on to the Alstroemeria. You can have them be a stand-alone flower, (as currently shown) or save them for another bouquet.
Create a Dome Shape
Evenly disperse the flowers but leave the center flowers standing a little taller than the others. Begin to angle the flowers as you place them closer to the edges of the vase.
Repeat the Process
Now is a good time to add your Roses. These beautiful lavender Roses, with a touch of pink on the edges, are the perfect addition to help create that feeling of a picturesque Spring Day.
After trimming the Roses to the appropriate length, replicate the dome shape. Remember, the center Roses should be standing a little taller and begin to angle the roses as you make your way to the edges. You may have the Roses reaching slightly beyond the Alstroemeria to help create depth within the arrangement.
What to do with the Rose leaves?
If you’d like, leave the upper most leaf stem. Any additional greenery adds to the bouquet and makes those pretty pastel flowers pop even more.
Triple the Flower Power
Adding in the final flower is the easiest! You are now a pro at creating a dome shape, so continue with that shape. Once your Gerber Daisies are trimmed, place them in the vase in the same manner but wherever a pop of color is needed.
Due to the larger size of the Gerber Daisy bloom, it’s easy to use this flower to help fill in and close up any gaps. This bright pink Daisy is quintessential to rounding out our Spring inspired Pretty Pastel Bouquet.
The Final Touch!
Today’s greenery is Willow Eucalyptus. I love Eucalyptus and welcome its timeless touch. Willow Eucalyptus has long narrow leaves, similarly to Alstroemeria’s leaves, but they’re smaller and elegantly cascade down the stem.
For the final touch, place the Eucalyptus along the perimeter of the bouquet, extending beyond the flowers approximately 2 inches, (featured). Adding the Eucalyptus not only adds more texture to the bouquet, but also creates the appearance of a larger bouquet.
For an Oval or Diamond shape
You can also change the overall shape of your bouquet depending on placement. Repeat the process for creating a circular shape, however you’ll want to extend the Eucalyptus out even further on two opposing sides of the bouquet, creating a pointed or tapered appearance, and thus creating a different overall shape.
