Flower Arrangement for The 4th of July
As we enter the summer months, longer days spent outside in the sunshine, we unite to make memories with family and friends. I’m sure you all can recall many summers as a child, excited for The 4th of July. Anticipation rising, eating hot dogs and watermelon, while waiting for evening to fall so you can stare up into the night sky observing brightly colorful explosions, followed by cheers of excitement.
Recreating those special summer memories is done by replicating the events from the past, and possibly adding in a few new touches of your own. This 4th of July, I will be spending it with those closest to me, sharing quintessential summer foods, surrounded by the colors of our nation, RED WHITE and BLUE.
As you all know, my passion is with flowers, so of course it is only suiting for me to decorate for The 4th of July with flowers adorned in patriotic flare. Scroll on down to see one of the many ways you can blend patriotism with summer blooms.

Select Your Vase, Prep the Water
The vase featured in today’s post is perfect for centerpieces! Due to its low-profile, you don’t have to worry about blocking the view of your table guests.
This has become one of my favorite vases when creating a bouquet that doesn’t demand a high-profile. Lucky for me, I found it at HomeGoods; one of my favorite stores! If you’re familiar with HomeGoods, then you know their items are most likely a one-time find.
To ensure you have exactly what you need to recreate this timeless 4th of July Bouquet, I have selected a couple of variations of this vase for you. Each of the vases below have very similar, if not exact, dimensions as the vase showcased with this bouquet.
The first option is an acrylic version that provides a lid to prevent spills but also allows for easy arranging in a wide mouth vase.
The second selection is a glass vase with a fully open mouth. To assist you with arranging your flowers, simply create a grid using tape. Go to my Pretty Pastel Bouquet post for instructions on constructing a floral tape grid.

Glossy Greenery!
As you can see, the greenery in this bouquet has a very glossy appearance to its leaves. Selecting greenery like this will help elevate the overall appearance of the bouquet.
Once you have trimmed your stems to the perfect length, arrange your leafy greens like so. Angling each stem and ensuring you have full coverage around the entire vase.
Starting off with the greenery for this particular bouquet gives the remaining flowers the structure and support they need to stay in place. If you find you’re having a difficult time with your stems staying put, simply create a tape grid. (featured in Pretty Pastel Bouquet)
If you need any guidance on trimming your stems, you can always check out some of my 5 Minute Flower segments on my Instagram. @yourtabletopflorist
To be more efficient and for ease with trimming, you will notice I utilize heavy duty shears in my 5 Minute Flower segments. If you don’t already have some of your own, click the link below.

SAY IT WITH RED ROSES!
Red Roses are always stunning and will surely catch the eye of your guests. Plus, they are the perfect shade of red for your 4th of July Bouquet.
Once you have prepped your stems, removing any thorns or leaves, begin evenly spacing your roses in the vase. For this arrangement, I started around the edges and worked my way to the center.
You will also notice I have not overcrowded the roses, utilizing only half a dozen. If you buy a dozen of red roses, you will have enough to make two arrangements. Allowing for synchronizing bouquets within your 4th of July decor.
Not overcrowding also leaves plenty of space for the remaining components of the bouquet.
Psst! Hate removing sharp thorns from your roses? Try this handy little thorn and leaf remover.
Add drama and flare with…White Veronica
Any flower that drapes over with cascading blooms is a winner in my book! I absolutely love Veronicas, (aka Speedwells). They add such character to any floral arrangement with their vivid colors and spire like blooms.
Depending on how Veronicas are positioned within an arrangement, you can acquire a more theatrical display or gain height and depth for your bouquet.
For our 4th of July Bouquet, I chose to angle the Veronicas and place them in between each rose and two on opposing sides of the central rose, also angled to keep with the theme.
These Veronicas came as 1/2 a dozen, so if you intend to make more than one bouquet, make sure to get 1/2 a dozen Veronica per arrangement.
The arching Veronicas also remind me of the way fireworks shoot through the night sky, making them even more suitable for our 4th of July bouquet.

Final touches! Blue Eryngium
The last and final touch to complete our 4th of July Bouquet are Blue Eryngium, aka Sea Holly. This spikey little number is the perfect addition for this arrangement.
It provides the patriarchal blue and takes on the appearance of a bursting firework. Need I say more? I think not!
While these thistle-like flowers perfectly mimic 4th of July festivities, I must warn you, the blooms are quite pointy. Handle them with gentle fingers if you must touch the bloom. But no worries if you do get a little poke, they’re non toxic.
You can use these flowers sparingly, only placing them where a pop of blue is needed, unless of course you want more within your bouquet.
Now that your 4th of July Bouquet is complete, you can carry on and enjoy your 4th of July, all while knowing you created the most elegant and festive bouquet possible!
I hope this post has encouraged you to recreate this holiday inspired bouquet. As always, I have enjoyed guiding you on this flower arranging journey and look forward to providing you all with more uplifting floral ideas and experiences. Thank you!
