Orange Roses

How often do you spot orange roses and say, “Those are the ones!”?

Let me tell you, not often enough! Orange roses are often overlooked and pushed to the side in favor of the more prevalent pink, purple or red roses. BUT NOT TODAY!

Today you’re going to grab those orange roses, put them in your basket and walk out of that store with them!

Just don’t forget to pay for them first.

Ok, you have the roses…now what?

Unsure of what to pair these stunning orange roses with? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one that may hesitate when selecting companions for orange roses.

Most people tend to reserve orange flowers for the fall months and they’re typically orange Mums. So, it’s not surprising that you may not know how to move forward in selecting complementary flowers.

One way to select the remainder of your bouquet is simply by grabbing other flowers and holding them up against the orange roses. Do you like the way they look? Does the pairing make you smile?

If so, then keep them and make another selection for your arrangement. If not, then put those suckers down and try again!

Still feeling a bit overwhelmed?

It’s ok, I have more defined guidelines for selecting flowers in another post. Hop on over to my What flowers pair well with Mums post and scroll down to How to select Flowers for an Arrangement.

Here I have outlined considerations for designing your bouquet. Pick one, maybe two aspects to focus on and go from there.

Leave the decision making up to me! I’ve already selected flowers that go wonderfully with the orange roses.

The great thing about this bouquet, even though there are mums included, it doesn’t give you fall vibes.

Selecting the Perfect Vase

Texture adds character

Utilizing a vase that has its own unique attributes contributes to the overall appearance of the bouquet.

I recommend selecting a vase that is complementary to the colors of the flowers or has texture. You can even choose a vase that has both of these qualities.

I have handpicked this medium sized, white, textured vase to house our beautiful summery flowers.

If you don’t already have this vase, you absolutely must add it to your collection.

The other great feature about this vase is the wide mouth, making it suitable for fuller arrangements.

Add the roses FIRST

In this particular case, I suggest adding the flower that has the most structure, the Rose.

Prior to adding the roses, make sure the stems are clean and free of any thorns or leaves.

Seeing how this vase doesn’t have an excessively large mouth, it will be fine to place the roses in the vase without using anything to hold the roses in place.

Hate removing thorns? Me too! Somehow, I still manage to poke myself on lingering thorns, no matter how careful I am.

I have since discovered a nifty little tool to help out with that. It’s a thorn remover! Save your fingers, use a thorn remover!

Grab those Mums!

These bright pink Mums are next on the list. Aren’t they gorgeous? I love their cheery pink color and lustrous blooms.

You may recognize Mums as flowers that are typically used in the fall due to their iconic fall tones, yellows, rusty oranges and deep moody reds. But they also come in a variety of other colors making them useful year-round!

Mums also have sturdy stems. So, if you wanted to, you could start with them, but today they’re second in line.

Place them in between the roses as shown. The large blooms of the roses and mums naturally create great spacing and hold all the flowers in place.

Fragrantly Freesia

As many of you know, Freesias are some of my favorite flowers. They’re romantically elegant and smell heavenly.

Their overall appearance alludes to them being a tropical flower, which they are, mimicking the petal structure of the Plumeria, another famously tropical flower.

Freesia’s scent, also tropical in nature, is intoxicating and inviting. Add them to an arrangement and the whole room will smell like a summer breeze of a remote, lustrous island.

The fact that their blooms cascade ever so gently down the stem, adds another element of floral diversity.

Place the Freesia evenly throughout the bouquet. You may leave them elevated slightly above the other flowers or settle them within. You can also place them along the edges of the bouquet, displaying their unique shape even more.

Adding the Final Touch

Incorporating varying colors and textures into a bouquet is what really gives it the Wow Factor.

Eucalyptus varieties allow for this particular plant to be used within many floral arrangement styles. Their leaves range from nearly perfectly round to long and narrow.

Some varieties even have seed clusters, offering even more character in a single stem.

As many of you know, Eucalyptus is known for its trademark scent and medicinal properties, some varieties being more fragrant than others.

However, this particular variety, the Silver Dollar, has a more subtle scent. So, you don’t need to worry about it overpowering the Freesia.

Place the Eucalyptus stems all throughout the arrangement. You may line the edges of the bouquet to create a more fluid overall bouquet shape as well.

I hope this bright and cheery Orange Roses bouquet is just what you needed today. I encourage you to collect your own orange roses and recreate this beauty for your own personal space.

Thank you for allowing me to guide you on this flower arranging journey. I look forward to many more adventures with you. Until next time, take care flower fans.
